Meet the Team
Owner & Jack of All Trades
A Connecticut native, Jennifer grew up in West Haven attending school there, followed by four years at Umass Amherst where she received her degree in Classical languages and education. It was during her summers at Umass that she began apprenticing as a dog bather and groomer at Wash and Wag under the previous owner Joan Smith. Always having a passion for animals since childhood, she really took to the job and enjoyed the time spent learning about animal welfare and healthcare as well as the artistic styles of dog grooming. She continued this work until taking a teaching job with the West Haven public school system while getting her Masters degree at Fairfield University. After a few years of teaching, she was disenchanted with the politics of her public service and decided to take some time to travel and explore other passions. She immediately recalled her love for animals and went back to grooming part time at Wash and Wag during her time in CT, as well as a veterinary technician job while living in Louisville Kentucky for a summer. In 2007 Jennifer moved to Denver Colorado where she worked as a dog groomer as well as some substitute teaching. It was during these years that she became more involved in rescue and charity work as well as working for animal rights in the community. She had the opportunity to spread her wings in the young vibrant city and discovered that work with animals was her true passion. She returned to Connecticut in 2010 and reconnected with Wash and Wag and its flourishing business. She also became and associate board member for the New York City ASPCA. Wash and Wag became available for purchase in 2012, and as of January 1st 2013, Jennifer purchased the business and became a first time business owner. Since then, she has grown the business and opened the company to new horizons in the community, making connections to do work with the local animal shelters, including New Haven and Meriden, as well as the local K-9 units. At 37 years old, Jennifer continues her philanthropy today as well as striving to make Wash and Wag Pet Grooming a thriving local business for the community. She is a proud wife and mom of her daughter Olivia, her two step daughters, and her French Bulldog, Bridgette!
